Nadeem
Shah effortlessly straddles and unites two cultures a world
apart, taking inspiration from his late father Ahmed Hassan
Shah, who was a Major in the British Indian Army. Arriving in
Britain over 40 years ago Ahmed became successful in a number
of commercial enterprises and well known as a philanthropist
in the South Yorkshire area.
Nadeem
set up the AHS Foundation in memory of his late father whose
business flair, sense of fair play and commitment to “putting
something back” into the community, he and his wife Maureen
both embrace.
When Nadeem visited the shattered village of Noon Bagla back
in October 2005 he immediately saw a lack of even the most basic
health care provision, a situation exacerbated by the earthquake
and one that he felt was vital to address. In consultation with
the local community leaders the concept of building a cottage
hospital was born. And so the AHS Foundation has committed to
raising £100,000 in order to build the hospital and improve
medical provision not just for the village, but for the remote
outlying area too.
Nadeem’s book ‘Earthquake’ is also dedicated
to his father whose wisdom taught him, among other tenets: “We
all build cottages for ourselves but the greater man builds
castles for others.”
