“Over many years Nadeem and I have been involved in raising
funds for charities local to our home town of Doncaster. These
have included a children’s hospice and community based
initiatives in conjunction with the South Yorkshire Community
Foundation, of which I remain a Trustee. We had been considering
for some time setting up the family’s own charitable trust
and when the disaster struck in Pakistan this presented a humanitarian
problem close to our hearts, to which we could respond with
vigour, determination and a will to make a difference to people’s
lives”

“As a Trustee of the AHS Foundation I have made regular
visits to Kashmir with my father to both assess and respond
to the scale of the problems in our adopted village of Noon
Bagla. My role will focus on the acquisition of equipment and
supplies for the cottage hospital and ensure that once operational
it continues to be fully funded.”

“I
am the Managing Partner of a Doncaster Solicitors practice and
was asked by Nadeem and Maureen to help in setting up and registering
the AHS Foundation as a charity with the Charity Commission.
This involvement gave me an insight into the plight of those
devastated by natural and other disasters. When invited to become
a Trustee of the Foundation I was pleased to accept and try
to contribute to an organisation dedicated to the provision
of relief for those suffering the consequences of such disasters”.

“Having lived in Doncaster all my life I have become passionate
about causes that are supported by individuals and groups in
the area. I have also known Nadeem and Maureen for many years
and about their dedication to charitable causes. When I heard
that they were setting up their own Foundation I was delighted
to accept an invitation to join the Board of Trustees. Our fund
raising plans are ambitious yet when attained will truly bring
hope to the community of Noon Bagla that AHS makes it their
pledge to deliver.”

“I have known Maureen and Nadeem for many years and have
been inspired by their dedication to supporting local charities.
Now, with the launch of the AHS Foundation I have the opportunity
to become more involved and to make a difference. My motivation
as a Trustee is to press home the message that the people left
homeless by the Pakistan earthquake deserve a voice but it’s
up to us to make that voice heard in the Western World. Their
daily lives are blighted by the lack of healthcare and in particular
I am shocked that children still die routinely from basic illnesses
such as diarrhoea– this is an unacceptable situation in
this day and age.”

“It
is difficult to comprehend the level of suffering being endured
by the people of Kashmir and so if I can help to alleviate this
suffering by putting my skills to good use then I am delighted
to help and to be a Trustee of the AHS Foundation.
The geographical location of the disaster and the general poverty
of the area, combine to make the task of helping out very difficult.
So it’s imperative for all of us here who are comfortably
off to try and do as much as we can.
I
have been a charity trustee for over 20 years, bringing to bear
both my financial skills and my knowledge. I met Nadeem Shah
through business and decided to extend my work to assist him
and the board with this very good cause.”
