A planned cottage hospital in earthquake-stricken Kashmir will have two additional beds, thanks to a donation from the Property Act Fund of South Yorkshire Police.

Chief Constable Meredydd Hughes handed a cheque for £1,500 to the AHS Foundation, which plans the hospital for the village of Noon Bagla, in one of the worst affected areas.

The Chief Constable commented: “Many people in our regional population originated from the devastated area and we are the lead Force for UK relations with Pakistan. We despatched a relief team to the area immediately after the disaster and supported the Kashmir Police Force with donations and large tents for the relief effort.”

The Chief Constable added: “Nadeem and Maureen Shah, who launched the Foundation, are great supporters of South Yorkshire People United Against Crime and that is greatly appreciated.”

Foundation Trustee Graham Watson said: “Thanks to the generosity of people from South Yorkshire and all over the UK, we are now well on the way to our £100,000 target, with some £40,000 banked in a few short months. The land for the hospital has already been acquired and site work will start shortly.”
